When people compliment my cooking, they are really complimenting my grandmother for many people, it can take a lifetime to find their calling. I started cooking at the age of twelve in my home country Liberia. I grew up in the city of Gbarnga Bong County.

As with many African cultures, it custom for young girls to learn how to cook. at the age of 8 my grandmother Lorpu began to teach me how to prep and cook. my grandmother passed away in 2015. as with losing any loved one, it was difficult for me. However, I was committed to honoring her memory and the values and flavors that she passed down to me.

When my family and I move to Charlotte NC it was an opportunity for me to think about how to honor both my grandmother Lorpu and my Liberian roots. Establishing Lorpu's Kitchen, was a way to share a part of my grandmother with the community. My grandmother is not here to see this but getting people to enjoy the meals and all that she ever taught me give me joy.
